The asteroid that killed the Cyclopes

Oh tempora! Oh more!

To see the sight he saw

Through that single lens

That night.

To feel the cooling of the air

As the sun hid in fear

Scared for him who wasn’t

He contemplated.

Fear coursed first throughout

But his blood felt lack of hope

For no one escapes it

“But why?”

He asked this question to himself

Why someone might choose to jump

“How easy it is to jump”

He said.

And as the star grew

His pupil dilated

The sparkle spreading

Like warm honey

He knew.

Although for him 

No choice was offered

As impacted wiped clean

The slate of history,

He knew

He felt

He saw.

“There is a beauty

In dying”

He whispered
